2026 is the year AI moved off the laptop and onto your face, into your ears, and onto the kitchen counter. Some of it is genuinely useful: glasses that answer questions about what you're looking at, earbuds that translate a conversation, speakers you can talk to like a person. Some of it is a subscription in disguise. Here's what each gadget actually does, what it costs, and what to know before you buy one, or give one.
AI glasses

Before you buy
- Buy the gadget, not the label. Analysts at Forrester told CNBC in October 2026 it's unclear whether shoppers want hardware "specifically because it is an AI device." Ask whether you'd still want it without the AI features.
- Match the ecosystem. AirPods' Live Translation needs an iPhone; Gemini features shine on Android; Alexa+ is best value for Prime members.
- Count the subscription. A $99 speaker plus $20 a month costs over $300 in the first year.
- Think about privacy. Glasses with cameras and always-listening recorders capture other people too. Check each maker's privacy settings, and be considerate about where you use them.
- Time it. Adobe's 2026 forecast names Cyber Monday, November 30, as the best day for electronics. See what to buy today for this week's picks.
